What is ear wax?
Ear wax is a sticky substance produced naturally to help clean, lubricate and protect your ears. The wax will normally work its way out of the ear and eventually new fresh wax will take its place. Ear wax removal is required when our natural self cleaning mechanism does not work efficiently.
In some cases the ear wax can build up in the ear canal bringing on the following symptoms :-
- Hearing loss
- A feeling of fullness
- Ringing in the ears
- Hearing aids become blocked or start to whistle
A build up of ear wax can be extremely frustrating and upsetting.

Is ear wax removal safe?
There are two main methods of ear wax removal – Electronic irrigation and Micro-suction.
All our treatments are carried out in a clean clinical environment (we are located inside a medical centre) designed specifically to cater for our patients needs.
At The Hearing Clinic Milton Keynes all ear wax removal is carried out according to guidance approved by the Royal College of GP’s the Royal College of Nurses the Primary Ear Care Centre and the Medical Devices Agency as well as being approved by BSHAA.
Our ear wax removal service is provided by an Audiologist & Clinical Ear Care Specialist so you have peace of mind that you are being treated by an expert.
The process of irrigation involves introducing a flow of water at low pressure into the ear canal to clean out the ear wax. The water is at the same temperature as your body. Before booking this procedure it vital to treat the ears with olive oil for a atleast seven days prior to treatment.
Our irrigation treatment is charged at £45 for one or both ears
Micro-suction has become a preferred method of ear wax removal amongst medical professionals and patients alike. Micro-suction is a system which uses suction to clear out any debris or wax from the ear canal. A fine suction tube is gently inserted into the ear canal whilst being viewed closely through magnification. Micro-suction does not require pre-treatment with olive oil but if you can use a few drops the night before your treatment it will help make the removal process alot easier.
Our micro-suction treatment is charged at £65 for one or both ears
